What Is Choline?
Choline is an essential nutrient officially recognized as such by the US Institute of Medicine in 1998. It is not a classic vitamin—the body can synthesize small amounts endogenously (primarily via the PEMT pathway in the liver), but not enough to meet physiological demands. Choline must therefore be obtained through diet or supplementation.
